Insurance Verification- We will check your insurance benefits and share that information with you before scheduling. If your plan offers out of network benefits we will submit claims on your behalf for all services.
Step 3:
Schedule your child’s initial evaluation or weekly sessions.
In preparation for your child’s first appointment:
We find it’s often helpful to obtain a prescription/order from your pediatrician for occupational therapy evaluation and treatment, although we can begin services without one. Some insurance companies do require prescriptions for OT and others do not. Our billing team can help find this information for you. A referral is different from a prescription for OT and if you have questions please feel free to email our office manager Alayna at [email protected].
We will send you a link to join our secure online portal. There, you will be able to conveniently fill out our intake forms prior to your scheduled evaluation and submit them directly to us. Our forms can be completed on a phone or computer.
If your child has received prior evaluations from other professionals these can be uploaded to the portal or emailed to [email protected].
Some children are nervous for their first visit to our clinic. Showing them the virtual walk through of our space may help them to become more comfortable with our office prior to their first appointment.
We welcome you to accompany your child to their evaluation or session. Caregivers may also wait in our waiting area.
Referral Process and Insurance Policies:
Children may be referred to Canyon Kids via self referral, school referral or by a physician/other healthcare provider. Your insurance verification will typically note if an prescription/order or referral is required by your insurance company. We recommend all families check with their insurance provider if a prescription or a referral is required prior to beginning out of network occupational therapy services. We will submit claims to your insurance after each therapy session and follow those claims for you. It is always helpful to monitor your EOB’s and if you have questions contact your insurance company directly.

Parking Information
There is metered parking located along Rugby Avenue and the surrounding streets as well as in the Woodmont Parking Garage a short five minute walk from our office. Parking fees at the street meters can be paid via coins or credit card and the parking garage offers a payment machine on each floor.
Metro/Bethesda Circulator
Our office is conveniently located between two red line metro stops, the Bethesda stop (0.6 mile walk) and the Medical Center stop (0.7 mile walk).
The Bethesda Circulator is a free shuttle bus around the Downtown Bethesda area. There is shuttle stop located just down the block from Canyon Kids in front of the Woodmont Parking Garage. For more information on the Bethesda Circulator, please check out their website.

What Is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy helps individuals to build the skills they need for everyday activities, such as playing, dressing, eating, writing, social interactions, and participation in school or other activities. How Do I Schedule OT Services?
Scheduling therapy sessions with us is an easy process.
1) Reach out to us by phone, email, or our online contact form. We will return your inquiry within 24 business hours to discuss your concerns.
2) We will send you our online insurance verification form to collect basic contact and insurance information. Once verified, we will share the insurance benefits information with you to review.
3) After you have reviewed your insurance benefits we can look into scheduling an initial evaluation and sessions.
Do You Offer OT Sessions Outside Of The Office?
Yes, we can provide occupational therapy sessions in alternative settings such as schools, parks, or at home depending on your child's needs and our OT's availability. We typically will schedule initial sessions at our sensory gym, where we have access to specialized equipment and therapeutic tools that can’t be easily transported. If you’re interested in exploring other options, we encourage you to discuss this with your therapist to determine what’s best for your child. We also offer in-school observations and to better understand your child’s needs within their educational environment.
Do You Accept Insurance?
We are an out of network provider for all insurance companies. We begin our intake process by collecting your insurance information to verify if your plan offers any out of network benefits. We will then share this information with you to review before scheduling. If your insurance plan does offer out of network coverage, we will submit claims to your insurance on your behalf following all services received with us.
